The Salvation Army do a lot of good work directly with the homeless. .
Yes they are making people homeless through sanctions from the work programme...Really nasty charity that has took the money dangled in front of them.
Christians my ar*e.It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Go with he Salvation Army - they do brilliant stuff with the homeless, and the clothes will go to the people that need them.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

What are you talking about?
They are a voluntary organisation and one of the few that doesn't waste the money they get.

Whereabouts do you live ?
I know i've heard them talking on the local radio about a couple of centres in Liverpool.
Does your Local Radio organise help. On Radio Merseyside they have volunteers working as the 'A' Team, phone them for help on any subject and what they don't know they'll find out and get back to you.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Thank you for the suggestions... there were far more than I could ever think of!
I'm wondering if Mum is actually ready to let go of Dads clothes yet - hence the 'pickiness'.
I will do a bit of research and make some suggestions.
We live in Greater London so there should be somewhere fairly close where we could take Dads things.
thanks again

Im assuming they have supported accommodation projects that house homeless people and when people get sanctioned by the DWP, it may have a knock on effect of meaning that housing benefit, which is often paid directly to the charity might be stopped.
Some charities might try and work with the person affected and not make them homeless due to a DWP sanction, it happened in the last supported accommodation project I worked in, the young person was sanctioned by the DWP for 26 weeks, housing benefit stopped, was reinstated on appeal but obviously the young person had no money to buy food or put money in the electricity meter. He wasnt made homeless by the charity I worked for due to the sanction, but some charities might serve notice on people in temporary accommodation if a sanction has knock on effects to housing benefit received.0 -
Maybe see if you have a local food shelter the homeless go to, to get meals? That could be a place to start as they could maybe point you in the right direction?*Loosing weight since September 2012 - 85lbs (6st) lost so far*

Shelters are not really advertised. As suggested above ask at a local church. We live next to a couple of vicars and we donate all our old clothes (adult and children's), they give them to the most appropriate place, ie they take mine and the children's to a refuge, OH they took to a men's homeless place and some hats and scarfs that the PTA had left over they took to various charities.
Eta I meant refuge type shelters are not advertised so people don't turn up looking for people0 -
You might try St Mungo's - it's in London.

Also the Whitechapel Mission

I've lost my motivation to support large national charities and have switched my support to smaller local charities.
Just out of interest, years ago I read about a charity that took in business/work cloths and gave them directly to homeless people who were getting themselves back on their feet and needed something to wear for interviews.
I'm trying to find it again because my husband has a wool suit upstairs that no longer fits him and I don't want to donate it to a charity shop.
If anyone comes across it, can they let me know please.0
