Avoid clothing from lightinthebox.com

My partner saw two coats being advertised on their website in the sale, they have since been removed from the website so I can't provide a link.

In the image they looked like they were made of usual coat material - they were smooth and looked waterproof. They were also fairly long, and definitely looked like a faux leather material on the close up view. They were being sold by lightinthebox but not made by them.

When they arrived from China it was like something completely different. They were made from thick, soft, fluffy fabric and the drape was completely different compared to the picture which clearly showed a smoother looking material. The hems are very obvious and bunched up. Part of the collar on one sticks out funny. And I paid just under £100 for two, including paying customs.

I was annoyed with the quality and wanted to complain, their policy was that you contacted them within 14 days of receiving the good and organise a return, once the items had been returned then they could assess whether they were wrongly described and compensate as well as refund.

However, my partner really looked forward to them and while he was disappointed he wanted to keep them. Seeing as I got them for him as a Christmas present I agreed, I could hardly force him to go through with a refund when he wanted to keep the gifts.

So I won't be buying anything from them again. Don't trust the images on the website. Lesson learned.

If they were that bad, why would he want to keep them?

I can say that i bought a wedding dress from LIGHTINTHEBOX and it was just beautiful. Perfect. Made to measure. Inexpensive, from China.

Maybe a hit and miss thing?

I know quite a few people who have ordered stuff from them and been over the moon.
I ordered a wedding dress from there, and provided all my measurements as asked. When the dress arrived it was beautiful for the most part (some loose stitching and detached beading, easily rectified), unfortunately it wouldn't even fit someone half my size. I was a size 16 normally (as I say, though, I supplied my measurements as well as dress size, so it wasn't a case of misunderstanding) and it wouldn't fit my best friend who was a size 6!
Unfortunately, due to waiting times I didn't have time to both return the one I had bought and then order another, so I was pretty miffed.
They also had put the wrong back in (zip instead of lace-up)

I think it depends entirely on the seamstresses you get as, like I said, I have friends who have ordered wedding/bridesmaid dresses from them and been pleased as punch.

I'm pretty sure what they do is make replicas of popular items, so what they're making is a cheap copy, and therefore you have to be a bit wary!

Because he loved the style and couldn't find anything like that anywhere else. If you don't have the images of what they should have looked like they do look nice, so long as you overlook the strange choice of material and the seams. Perhaps cheap looking for the price. Also perhaps because I bought them for him for Christmas.

What's at issue is that they are completely different to the picture and material as described.

Serves you right, tell it is a chinese site straight from the off, should have given it the swerve
  • My 'XL' coat I brought for was more like a small. (Even though I ordered one size up)
    I paid £36.31+Shipping Charges & Insurance.
They offered is a refund of the £30.90, (price less 15%)
I would have to pay cost of return postage £4.80

The replacement item is currently on sale at £41.13.

So lets say its going to cost me an extra £15 because they have little concept of UK sizes.

Think I'd be better off reselling on ebay.
