Child Tax Credits - Owed backdated money

My daughter gone back to college full time now from Sept 13 & I made a claim for Child Tax Credit then.
It taken HMRC months to approve the application and just now they stated they are going to make a monthly award payments.
However, the rest of the backdated money. It appears they will not pay until after April 2014.
Is this normal procedure? I lodged the application as fast as I could and seems like I am waiting for the backdated money as HMRC took so long to sort it out.

Thanks for your reply.
The potential payment works out to what they say they going to pay monthly over the course to April.
However there is still £1,000 or so which is the payment from Aug-Jan which they say is owed to me.
However nothing about a date of paying that.0 -
The award has been based on last year income. Though I suppose can wait until April just be nice to get the money now!0

Yes I had the award notice just before Christmas.
Last years is correct as they took it from my P60.
I am on the same salary as last year at present.0 -
30/8/13 is the award date start.
They only started paying the monthly amount this week. That is the 1st child tax money I have had from them.0 -
Award from 30/8/2013 - 5/4/2014 £1,800
Amounts to be paid from now to 5/4/13 £800
£1000 still outstanding0 -
I'll drop them a letter. They should be paying up the back dated money at least.0
