Outlook 2010 unable to receive Yahoo E-Mails

Hi,

Wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar problem.

Today, Outlook 2010 has stopped receiving e-mails from my Yahoo account, and other family members also experiencing the same problem.

Our two laptops received Windows updates yesterday, which may be coincidence or not......

I have seen a number of similar questions asked, and so far I have tried compressing the pst file, and removed the Yahoo account from outlook and set it up again, both without success.

When Outlook sends the test message when setting up the new account, it confirms it has established the network connection, searches for the server connections, but fails to logon to the server and send a test message. Hence I currently no longer have my e-mail account linked in Outlook now!!

Before I deleted the account, Outlook did appear to be still sending e-mails, which I verified by sending a test e-mail and viewing it my accessing Yahoo e-mail through the yahoo website.

I have also tried another account (an old Tiscali one) that does appear to have worked, so thinking this is maybe something to do with Yahoo rather than Outlook?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

it is, yahoo's mail servers are having another faff similar to that mid-december... have you changed to port 995 in your outlook settings? Took me a while to find they'd done that at the time...

Yahoo have changed a lot of settings recently. It would be worth going to their site and checking everything you have set in Outlook is the same as their current requirements.

Thanks both of you for replying - suspected it may have been a Yahoo issue rather than Outlook.

With regard to changing the port to 995, I have tried this but when trying to send a test message, still receiving "Log into incoming mail server (POP3): Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server" then " Send test e-mail message: None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server".

With regard to changes to the settings by Yahoo, I have tried searching but no success - could you please point me in the direction of this information.

    Many thanks.

There are currently problems with the UK POP3 servers. Change the POP3 server in your client (Outlook) from:

    pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk

    to

    pop.mail.yahoo.com and it will work.

    Espresso,

Thanks for the reply. I have tried changing the POP3 server as you mentioned, and although it does now seem to be logging into the Yahoo Server, it still won't send a test message. The error message I am receiving is:

Send test e-mail message: Cannot send the message. Verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The server responded: 530 5.7.1 Authentication required

No idea what I need to do now. Again, any assistance greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks (again!!).

You need to check that your settings are correct - the error message is informing you that authentication is required.

If your settings were correct before you started tinkering, the simple change above from .co.uk to .com would have worked for you, as it has worked for several others that I have told.

however, if you move to the .com server, you may be in danger of downloading every e-mail you hold on the server rather than just the new ones.....

yahoo is pain in neck at moment, fixed mine at outlook recently with that error - here's how

    1. in accounts, login information

    username - yourname@youremail address
    password - your password
    check remember password

    2. (more likely)

accounts > more settings - tab outgoing server - "my outgoing server smtp requires authentication

tick it, same settings as incoming

(then try it, it should work, only do below if it doesn't )

if that doesn't work , log on using

    then your email, your password

    Many thanks again.

It looks as if the "my outgoing server smtp requires authentication" was causing the problem. Bizzarely, I can now receive mail from my Yahoo account on the laptop that I had deleted the account from - this has now allowed me to recreate the account - yet the other laptop is still not allowing e-mails to be received, even though I have the identical settings!!

Anyhow, may try deleting the account and starting again, as this seems to have worked on the other laptop.

Thanks again for your time in replying - greatly appreciated.
