Family fraud

Can anyone help me please? After a close relative died I discovered my uncle who was bankrupt a decade ago had obtained various forms of credit in my relatives name and this caused immense financial hardship and distress. I had thought he would offer an explanation as to what had happened but I am met with accusations from him.
His son also said it is private and l should forget about it.

I can't believe he just gets away with it. Is this a common problem?

Do nothing or report him to the police depending on how much evidence you actually have and how much you want to have your relationship with your family, or at least part of it, irrevocably ruined.

it depends on how it impacts on the deceaseds estate and whether you are the one charged with sorting it out. you may need specialist legal advice if the estate is liable for debts incurred by your uncle in the deceaseds name.

Thanks, a solicitor is dealing with probate and the house is sold.
    Family relationship non existent now

Seems like the elderly are not protected from this sort of thing tho if it was someone outside the family I think there would be a police matter.

its a shame your uncle wasn't better protected - I abhor people who take advantage of elderly parents! The problem being that often this sort of elder abuse only comes to light AFTER the person has died. anyone reading this who suspects something similar is happening - could I suggest you contact AGE Concern or similar for advice?
