Beware the waterfall tap

We bought our house new and the builder had installed water fall taps identical to these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Designer-Habitat-Modern-Contemporary-Waterfall/dp/B005C30WCG/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1388869897&sr=8-12&keywords=waterfall+taps

After 11 months one failed so we got the builder back and he replaced it with the same, this again has just failed after 11 months.

I do not know if there are identical taps which are better but these are definitely rubbish, they can be found on e-bay and other on line sites.

Taking the tap apart to investigate I can advise that the guts of it are plastic rubbish, avoid. I have now fitted a decent twin lever tap.

    Cheap Chinese crxp.

Lots of eBay shops passing theses taps off as good quality, but can't tell the difference until you hold them and feel the lack of quality.
  • what's crxp mean ?

oh I see you mean crap :p
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • Unfortunately you get what you pay for - obviously not your fault in this case OP :o

IMHO, that's why it's always best to pay a bit more and go for brands such as Hansgrohe, Perrin & Rowe etc ;)

Finding my taps are on Amazon for £12.99 just about says it all. What makes things worse is that when Bodge the Builder replaced the first tap he left us with a leak under the basin which ratted the kitchen ceiling below. This time I did the job myself to make sure it was done right.

Agree - we just had two shower rooms installed and our fittings are all Hansgrohe or Crosswater. The shower pipe/head etc alone was around £3k retail, but fortunately DH got a good deal from a friend in the business ;)

It's worth trawling eBay for genuine high-end bargains - last year I picked up an unused, boxed Perrin & Rowe tap for our utility room for £30 plus p&p because the seller had just written *taps* as both a heading and description - mind you we still forked out a fortune for Barber Wilson's for the kitchen :o

You do need to be a pretty dedicated Ebayer though - I'm addicted to the place and have found all sorts over the years. If you know what you're looking for, you can usually find it!
