No claim but loss of no claims discount.

A few months ago DD (age 19) went into the back of another car at very low speed ( in traffic). She and other driver got out of cars and checked both vehicles and as there was no, didn't exchange details etc.

Some time later, DD gets letter from insurance company saying that we believe you've been in accident. When DD rang them, insurance co said that accident had been reported by 3rd party. She explained no damage, no details exchanged etc and they said that as they'd had no claim from other driver, she didn't need to do anything, but she would lose her NCD.

DD didn't tell us about losing NCD at time, but renewal has just come in and has her down as 0% NCD.

Is this correct? If neither DD or other driver has claimed, should she lose her 2 years NCD?

Thanks.

Maybe there was a claim submitted? (Maybe whiplash developed?)

Contact the insurer and find out - if there has been no claim then ask them to close the case and reinstate the NCD.

Will ring insurer in the morning.

If there had been a claim, would insurance co not have contacted DD for her side of story ie formal report? Other than phone call, she has not given any details.

They'll keep the claim open while they wait and see whether or not the third party actually makes a claim, and this may affect her NCD while it's open. But once it becomes obvious that there's not going to be a claim (not sure exactly how long that should be) they should close it and reinstate her NCD.

It happened on 3 June 2013, so would've thought that if anyone was going to claim, they would've by now.

Sounds like her insurers have received a claim, wrote a letter to her and she rang them and said that she ran into the back of someone.

Probably nothing more formal required. Clearly her fault.

If they hadn't received a claim, how would they know about it.

No, it was a 3rd party who reported it ie someone who saw the accident. The insurance company confirmed that they had NOT received a claim.

This is all conjecture, but are you sure?

Sounds like "the" third party, as what business would it be for a random third party to find out with whom she was insured and report the incident?

(She should have reported the incident herself when it happened)

But get in touch with the insurers and get to the bottom of this.

(The third party has 6 years to put in a claim for damage and 3 for an injury claim)
