Is this a good netbook for college and casual use?

Can it play HD movies?

    No and no.

My friend had one. Processor is too slow and the screen is tiny with a low resolution. It's also pretty old.

It is however a great portable machine for occasional web use while out and about purely based on size and it's nice build. Certainly NOT for long periods of research / coursework. The keyboard is very hard to type with. Plug in an external keyboard and mouse might help but the screen size is still tiny unless you want to plug in an external screen as well.

Might get away with a normal sized netbook that's 10" but wouldn't suggest watching HD movies on them. For prolonged use, get something at least 14"+
