Off work sick, meeting where i will be sacked and homeless. HELP

Hello,

I started a new Job in September, 7 weeks later sunk into a deep depression and have been off sick ever since. Been signed off yet again for another 6 weeks and have a work meeting on Tuesday.
I know I cant return and expect to be sacked which I completely understand. Since this has all happened, I have sunk into debt (sent off letters offering £1.00 a month)
Plus on top of it all now homeless, so next month will be moving in with my ex and our child miles away from my current location.
Will I get benefits? What do I do until I find somewhere to live and a job. Getting very worried its taken me this long to sit down and start, well attempt to do something about it.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
(Single mum, 1 child)
Im also one month behind on the rent due to housing benefit not paying me the correct money for over 4 months, Im getting no where with them and have completely given up trying. My biggest concern is what money I will live on when I get sacked.

    Hello,

You can in principle make a claim for employment and support allowance.

An unfortunate wrinkle is that moving in with your ex makes it very likely that at some point the question of you living together as a couple will arise.

This is allowed - as long as there is no relationship that goes beyond friendship. However the problem is that you already tick most of the boxes for them deciding you are a couple - living together - child - prior relationship - possibly living rent free, ...

In most cases, eviction cannot happen over one months arrears, it requires considerably more than that.
Do not move immediately if you are not forced to.
A seperate post on the housing forum is probably a good idea - or read some of the FAQs about eviction.

What do you mean by 'HB not paying me the right amount'?
They will not always pay the full amount, depending on circumstances, and local rents.
    Are you under 35?

Moving in with your ex could mean they treat you as being together. Does your ex work?

  • I currently have a shared tenancy with my mother, she has now left and I cant afford to pay the rent alone. So I handed in notice and after that went into arrears. Im not going to claim housing benefit whilst staying with my childs father, I will probably be staying with lots of people when that time come, im more concerned with having money to feed my child than anything else right now.

It is not only housing benefit, but things like tax credits, IB ESA, IB JSA etc would all be affected if they decide you are living together as partners
  • Im claiming work tax credits right now and child benefit,
I wont just be staying with him, Ill be staying with friends as well back home where I was born. Been priced out of London

You may struggle to find a landlord as you have rent arrears currently.
