Fox hunting was traditional, bullfighting is traditional,

Both these activities are/were carried out in the name of "sport", whale hunting isn't. By saying this, it does not follow that I support whale hunting.

The rights, wrongs, intricacies of this aside, tradition is the weakest possible argument for something to continue.

Fox hunting was traditional, bullfighting is traditional, but then taking that further Viking tradition was to gut a live animal and splash blood over the dining guests, or feudal landlords giving gifts of dung to Christmas wassailers. Just because something was done in the past doesn't mean it needs to be done forever.

It is their right as Faroese to continue, not for some nosey idiot to shove their two cents in, and tell them they need to stop. Are you going to tell those who slaughter million of cattle or chickens they need to stop because they use them for food? Didn't think so.

And consequently it is the right of chimney sweeps to send children up chimneys, and India should keep the caste system and homosexuality should be illegal. As I said, tradition/always been this way isn't a valid argument for something to continue. The Spanish eat the bulls, so that must be right too?

By all means argue that they will starve to death without eating whatever, and don't have options. That is at least arguable, 'tradition' / 'always been that way' just undermines any case you make.

I think your cattle and chickens line is a bit of a red herring, they are farmed stock. Do the Faeroese actively farm the whales? Maybe they do, I have no idea so am relying on your local knowledge, but if not, then red herrings and bluster just serve to confuse/derail the discussion. If this is something you feel strongly about, I'm sure you'll want to promote the strongest arguments why!
  • Well the Faroe Islands get subsides from
The EU tho they don't follow the procedures on whaling. Will you still be saying its right when they go extinct?

The fact of the mater is farmed stock is sustainable but the Faroe's kill the whole pod in one sweep the young the old which gives no sustainability. Groups have been protesting it for years and they won't stave because of it if a supply ship cannot access the islands then a small fishing boat won't go out in that weather.

As I said this is gained from server all years of search and rescue deployments.
