aqua say I need to provide more proof of id to clean up my file. I sent them my bankruptcy discharge notice but now need to send copy of driving license, proof of current address and a utility bill from previous property (that we moved from 4 years ago!), even though I have a current well-managed card with them.

Will I need to send it signed for?
What do I say in the letter?

Proof or the bankruptcy order and discharge is enough. If they doubt that they apply to you and your debt, you could send a copy of the creditor list from your BR statement of affairs and a copy of the credit file entry showing the address links.

Sounds like they are doing their best to stonewall though, so whatever you do, tell them that you will be taking the matter to the FOS and ICO if they continue to refuse to update the entries without good reason.

In regards to your letter dated 30/12/13 I am providing the following information. This is at your request, even though my bankruptcy discharge letter confirms my identity. I have also included for your reference the part of my Credit reference where my linked addresses are clearly stated, and well as the incorrect data you have been reporting.
I would be grateful if you proceed to amend your records immediately for the previously stated errors. As I initially advised, if this is not done I will be escalating my complaint with the FOS and ICO.
