2 small victories against Santander

Back in 2012 I was made redundant and moved from West London back to my hometown of Nottingham.
During the move I requested all of my standing orders to be stopped as money would be short with the move.

The Santander retail bank in Ealing Broadway didn't remove all the standing orders in time, this caused me to go over my overdraft, which in turn then caused me overdraft charges I couldn't afford... Instead of understanding from the retail bank in Nottingham city centre I was told because there would be no record of the conversation I had with the London branch (despite them seeing all but 1 standing order removed) I would have to pay the charges. I refused and recieved a threat of deafulting on my account and a poor credit report.

3 months of complaints later I recieved a written apology, a refund of all the unfair charges and £50 compensation, I was also told that no further action would be taken on either my account or credit file.

Having no problems with getting credit since then I was suprised to find on requesting my credit report this month that Santander had applied 3 notices in 2012 for missed payments, including a red notice for 3 missed payments in a row with possibility of defaulting.

I contacted the team who originally dealt with the unfair charges and was told this was indeed a mistake however they wouldn't be able to do anything further until another team could pick up the request to review my file and that I would have to call back again in a week to see their reply, to then reply again, etc.

Having now being penalised again for charges which were unfair I demanding they act straight away or take ownership of the situation. A call with the complaints team later resulted in a member of staff doing the running around for me contacting me every step of the way and a further £43 compensation for my trouble. As the incorrect notices on my credit file are rather minor their cap for compensation is £43

Santander have now removed all notices on my credit file and I've had a total of £93 compensation.
I may seek further damages but this is dependant on cost etc.

Don't let them trample all over you, fight your corner!!

  • Further to this, does anyone know if there is a such thing as a "no win no fee" legal route for claiming damages from Santander for both their mistakes but mainly the 3 incorrect credit report entries?
