Turning off/adjusting settings on You Tube

Considering giving kids our old smartphones to use like an Ipod Touch, but have concerns that Youtube comes as a built in app.

What do I need to do to make sure they can't find dodgy videos, besides sit next to them every moment they listen to music?
Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

  • You can disable the app depending on the phone. If you install a firewall app you could also block access to the web based version of youtube aswell.

Whatever you do its still your responsibility to speak to your children about the dangers of the internet and what you don't want them looking at. Try this aswell.

Next thing you know they'll be on Silk Road hiring hitman and buying drugs with Bitcoins.

Youtube is the least of your worries to be honest. Via the internet application they'll be able to access any of a bazillion !!!!!! sites.

It might be worth having a look at the different companies, EE, O2, Vodafone etc and seeing what parental controls they offer (if the phones are being used as phones, but it does sound like they'll be used as music players). There are also a number of apps you can use to limit what they can see and do. I can't recommend any as I've never used them.

If these are Android smartphones, then perhaps use OpenDNS:
