Placed into a care home can she retain some of her Assets

Options
Hi
My mother is 95 years young, she has been disabled from birth managed to raise 2 children and go to work well past retirement age.
She owned her own home my father provided her with an extra pension, probably has an accumulative wealth 250,000+ pounds included with the property.
She fell 3 months ago, not for the first time, and can no longer get up or move without assistance, probably never will, she also has slight dementia.
My mother has now been placed into a care home, my brother is 73 and I do not live in the UK. We both have POA and my brother has placed the house up for sale, and has sold off most of the contents. This is to pay for her care.
I understand she should pay for some of this, I think the care home is about 600 pounds per week.
Is she allowed to retain any of her assets?
What happens once her finances have ended?
Thank you for any help.

If your mother has over £23k (I think that is the current amount) in savings then she will keep all her assets and just pay for the home from those assets & from any other income (pensions etc) she may have. When she eventually gets below then they take the pensions & the local authority tops it up and leaves her with spending money. But it will take some years to reach that stage.

ETA. Some care homes allow residents to keep at least some of their own furniture & to put their own pictures on the walls, have pot plants etc.

Try looking at the AgeUK website it gives some info on financing care. Only part of the fee in a care home is actually for care!
