eBay insertion fee errors

During the free insertion fee period currently on at eBay, any listing of £1 and above is free. However if you make the mistake of listing for 99 pence say, you are charged *even if* that listing would normally be free to private sellers listing less than 100 items per month. Their automated systems are obviously a bit buggy.
The customer call centre is very dismissive "our system makes no mistakes". They can't explain why I have been charged for insertion fees during the promotion period, but not before. I can live with the extra costs, but the arrogance is incredible! Having a poor call centre does more to damage your brand than not having one at all.

I've heard it said on the eBay board that's it's better to request a PIN number online before you call and that it's better to speak to the Irish call centre. It's pretty well know they often speak a lot of rubbish0

I've listed a few 99P items without charge, you've either exceeded the allowed number or you have listed in 2 categories.
No one is reporting the same issue on the ebay boards here, or on ebay and I think if this had been a glitch we would have heard about it by now.
Oh, and there is BTW an dedicated ebay board here on MSE, did you intend to post on this forum or if posted in error would you like me to move your thread across?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Did you list those items today? The items I listed earlier in the week, during the promotion period were listed free.
I have been on the phone for over an hour - and finally a supervisor has admitted the problem. There is a potential system error. They have credited me back the listing fee. I wasn't complaining for nothing! I think most of the representatives have a script which is for the typical user, who can't understand the promotions.

eBay, despite reports to the contrary are quite good at refunding . They usually will refund, even due to a user error and say it is glitch if the amount involved is low. I've added a post to the eBay boards asking if anyone else has had problems, there is still nothing on any of the forums on eBay community.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. OK, so the problem only affected me I guess. At least I got a refund in the end.

A glitch would be unlikely to affect just one person and since thousands of items are listed every hour I would expect other people to start posting if there is a problem. If no one else reports a problem take a look at your listings, make sure you haven't got a 2nd category ticked.
Also double check your expanded seller dashboard, make sure it still shows as 'standard' and hasn't slipped.
This thread will explain how to check your expanded dashboard:

Has this been proven or is this just something you've came up with in anger?
I'm saying this as my experience of eBay call centres as a buyer have been fine. So you've got to bare in mind you cannot state that a call centre is poor just solely based on your own opinion. Therefore without knowing how many people are satisfied and not satisfied with eBays call centres it's impossible to work out whether it's call centres has an effect on it's brand just because you weren't happy.0
