We all have different strategies and risk tolerances. I am interested in how these have impacted on returns last year. I’m not sure the best method to measure risk but I use TrustNets FE Risk scores. I guess we have everyone on here from the bond investor with a miniscule risk score to the chap investing in Bitcoins who is off the scale completely.
Just as a bit of background - my strategy is momentum with a bit of balance and value thrown in. I am an active investor investing predominantly in managed funds although I have some trackers, etf’s and 5% in VCT’s. I had a good year although I made a couple of particularly costly mistakes along the way. I am living off my investments rather than adding to them (a portion being in drawdown) – This probably makes me less tolerant of volatility than some and also able to invest time in managing my portfolio.
Overall performance 18.2% (including all costs – platform fees etc.)
Average risk score ~75
Overall risk score <50 currently 42 (using the trustnet portfolio analysis tool)

Obviously over complicated this
- maybe not many people use trustnet to monitor risk?
Anyone prepared to say how their portfolio performed in 2013 with a few words on their strategy - i.e mainly index trackers or predominantly managed funds etc.:)0 -

This year the return on the equity component of my portfolio has been 30.5% giving an average 23.6% for the last five years. Obviously this performance just reflects the recent bull market but, even with less comprehensive records, I think I've managed an averaged annual performance of around 9% since 1990.
I mainly hold individual shares on the LSE and I use ETFs for foreign markets. Next year I plan to start buying ITs. However, I also keep quite a lot of cash so overall returns are significantly lower.0 -
I'm not sure keeping a tracking of volatility scores means all that much, diversification into non-correlated sectors seems reasonable - certainly if you look at the funds I'm drip feeding into the change in the fund price last year ranges from -3% to +47% (Edit: the median fund came in at 22% - IP HK & China)
The drip feeding also makes it harder to work out a total performance for the year. Rather simpler than that I can tell that my net worth increased by about 10% over the calendar year.IANAL etc.0 -
Overall mine made around 16%. 4 company pension pots in mostly actively-managed funds (with a couple of index trackers), and a S&S ISA in Vanguard LifeStrategy 100%. I'm relatively new to the investing world - only got into it last year, so for now I've plugged all my holdings into Trustnet and let them do the calculations. My worst performer was Zurich M&G Corporate Bond ZP @ 2.7%, and the best Zurich Aquila World Ex UK Equity Index ZP @ 22%. The actively managed components such as Zurich Standard Life GARS did relatively poorly compared to the index trackers. My portfolio FE risk score is 76."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000
