E-on Meter Recertification?

I have recently received several letters from E-on stating they need to replace my gas meter on behalf of my energy supplier. I ignored the first couple, as E-on were not my energy supplier (recently switched).

However, after receiving three letters within a week, I figured they must be genuine. So I rang to arrange a slot. The guy from e-on then said they wouldn't do the recert, as they are no longer my energy supplier. I read the letter to him - it clearly states "on behalf of your energy supplier". He didn't believe such a letter existed and said if it really did say that then I needed to email it to him, which I duly did. His reply was that I had been sent the letter in error (so 6 letters sent in error?!) and repeated they couldn't carry out the work as they weren't my energy supplier, and that I should contact my energy supplier.

I rang ecotricity, who were very polite, but explained they couldn't do anything as E-on were in fact "in charge" of my area, and that as the letter stated E-on should change the meter. They said they would try to look into the matter, but haven't heard back from them.

Rang E-on back. Same guy. He said they could change my electric meter but not my gas meter, and to contact my energy supplier to sort the problem out.

Who is correct and what do I do now?

  • Personally I would` nt bother with any meter exchanges unless they are for "smart " meters because you will have to through the process again,( maybe taking time off work), in a short time anyway. Eon have started their rollout and expect to complete by 2020, the governments target date for us all to be on smart meters

I'm trying to do this on a phone but my advice is to go to Ecotricity first because hopefully their manager can also give Eon a kick to book your appointment

Ring Eon and ask for the name of the manager who is managing the Recertification Programme for Ecotricity in your area. Ask them to contact you. Follow this in writing titled with Complaint

You can also ring Ecotricity who must have someone who deals with Eon. This should also follow with a letter titled complaint.

The "account manager" at both organisations should have a list of the MPRs and addresses that are in this programme.

They should also be able to give you the reason (although it will be fairly generic) for the exchange.

just tell your supplier to arrange
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    Hi jh458

I'm sorry you've had so many problems trying to sort this out.

In recent months, we've started taking over meter recertification jobs on behalf of our customers. These were previously done by third parties.

I suspect, as you've recently switched, the letters you've received were a result of our systems not being fully updated with details of your switch.

It's your new supplier you need to speak to arrange a meter change.

Sorry again for the confusion but hope this explains.
