I have an old Ford Escort Estate, recently purchased, bodywork in excellent nick, drove beautifully until it just died on me last week. Now it makes a horrible clnking noise, and a mate has suggested it's the crank shaft. Can anyone tell me how much this is likely to cost? I know its gonna be a lot. Thx!

when does it make the noise?I'd have thought the only thing to go wrong with the crankshaft would be the oil seals and the bearings - I don't know what that sounds like.If it is the CS bearing, you might aswell look for a new engine in scrap yards, or throw the car away. Sorry no idea as to cost, but a lot depends who you ask to do the work. An engine shouldn't cost much more than 150 - 200 with 100 - 150 to swap them over. You need a second opinion.0

You'll get a used engine from ebay/scrapyard for next to nothing, quicker cheaper and easier than mending your old one.The money, Dave...0
