If you want to take traffic away from the store website and to real peoples reviews and experiences it's best to use the real name because that's what people search for. Even for searching on this forum it would be better if people used the real names so we can search for "tesco value chopped tomatoes" and not "te$co value chopped tomatoes" (cause who's going to guess that?).

Hope that makes sense. I can see why people do it but it's based on a misunderstanding of how google works and actually creates LESS competition for the supermarkets main websites because no one is using the real names, therefor the pages do not have the keyword (the supermarket name) that is being searched for.

    Hi Leah,

Many thanks for this. I never really thought about it from your angle before but it make sense and on that basis, I shall happily refer to sainsburys, tescos and asda by their full names unless I'm in a hurry in which case Mr S is still quicker to type!

how come you guys freeze milk?
im trying to save money on my grocery but a 4 pint from mr A near me is only £1? i usually get 2 one week and 3 the week after, always have good dates on them too. if we are ever snowed in my corner shop sells at £1.49
if im honest i probably wouldnt have the room in my freezer anyway

I have a little girl who drinks whole milk and I use semi skimmed. Between us, we go through an average of one litre a day. My nearest supermarket is Sainsburys which is ridiculously expensive for milk but very good for reduced bread and fruit and veg. The cheapest 2 litre of milk they have is £1.55 or something like that. So, about once every 10-12 days I pop to Tescos or Iceland and pick up 10-12L of milk, which cost £0.90 for 2 litres, and stick 6-8L in the freezer so that the milk won't go off by the time we get around to consuming it, as it takes each of us 4 days to get through our respective 2 litre cartons of milk. If I had more space, I'd only do my milk shopping once a month but unfortunately my freezer space is limited.

  • Main grocery shop of the month done, bought nibbles etc that I wouldn't usually but needed for a camping trip this weekend. Was amazed at how quickly they increased the total spend.

DH and I went out for dinner last night - Chinese Banquet, very nice, but I found myself carefully looking at the construction of each dish and I am sure that I could replicate it sometime in the future.

Tonight will start to attack the fish mountain that OH bought home, think we will have mussels (cooked in their shells on the bbq) followed by crayfish salad and pan fried scallops.

Cooked grouper bellies Tuesday night and they were surprisingly good, just put them in small amount of water, splash of lemon juice, sprinkled with fresh tarragon and onto the bbq for about 10 mins. Yumm

ahh that makes sence. I used to have semi skimmed. But OH drank more than me when we moved together and he likes whole. And then dd and ds came along so I went with whole just to save money. Now they are getting bigger I may change us all over to semi as ds has that at school anyway and OH now works so only has cereal on day off and just a cupa tea in a morning.

A badly needed nsd today which raises my amount left per day to just over the £7 mark :)
I wouldn't be worried if it was just for food but it is also for toiletries and cleaning stuff.

I was under in December but the spare has already been put towards my car insurance as the annual payment is due on the 8th. I've just searched around and found it for almost £100 less so that is a big help :j

Thankyou for the ideas and offers of help x :A
I've stretched 4 sausages out today to make 8 lunches, that will help and it looks really nice. I'm wishing it was tomorrow lunch time :D

Thanks Mrs Moneypenny, I didn't think anybody was criticising me either - I just felt the need to explain some of my peculiarities to complete random strangers on the "interweb"!:)

Rather envious of your 4p bananas - that's one thing I never find reduced.

our sains must order too many as they often have them that cheap - the ones i got tonight are still green so will last a while. DD2 came round so i told her she could have half but her and her fella nipped down and got 15 more. they said lunchboxes will be sorted for the rest of the week and bananas and custard for the weekend.

i find its worth popping in our local mid evening as theyve usually got lots RTC

Just popping in to add £10.65 to my total, not looking great for only day 5 of Feb! But I will do my best.

Made the Mushy Pea Curry for dinner, and had it on top of a baked potato with some Greek yogurt on top. I have to admit, I looked at the recipe and thought "that's em, interesting" but I'm also following ww and everything in it was allowed, so thought why not!!

Glad I did, it was lush!! And so quick & easy to make. I did throw in a few bendy peppers, mushrooms & a lonely carrot.

A new regular in this household I think!!
My name is CherryPie and I'm addicted to grocery shopping!!

  • 2 NSDs Mon and Tues and £8.23 to report for today in Ald! on bread, butter, milk, fruit and veg. I agree with what others have posted about feeling a need to provide meat and three veg to working OHs as that was how I always felt, but lately we have talked about cutting down on meat for health and cost reasons.

By not cooking this type of meal 7 days a week, I have definitely saved money. And one of our favourite meals is beans on toast! In fact we are having that tomorrow, and tonight we had a chicken simmer soup with an added pack of savers noodles minus the flavouring sachet and a pack of brown part baked rolls.
