I keep things simple by including everything I buy in the supermarket in my GC budget. So as well as food, that is alcohol, toiletries, cleaning products, cat food and the occasional odds and ends such as greeting cards/wrapping paper.
I wouldn't count any prescriptions or special toiletries/make up I buy at Boots.
I also cheat a little because I don't add OH's lunch bits he buys himself from the convenience supermarket near his office as he doesn't keep a good record of the receipts. This is an area I need to tackle tho, as I feel too much money disappears down this route. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -

Managed a NSD today. Thursday is easy tea day as I tend to get in late from work. We used up a few bits I had found lurking in the frezzer when I did my stock take at the end of Jan including a couple of waffles, the were definitely past there best which I didn't think would be that likely to happen with wafflles but hey ho.
Must remember to get steaks for tomorrow's tea out in the morning.Debt as at January 2014 £13,546.84Current £11,485.15 - 15.42% paid - moving in the right directionDebt free date [STRIKE]Jan 2016 Dec 2015[/STRIKE] Nov 2015MMH 35 - SFD 8/15 FB 266.46/240 T-O 0/0 donation 3/£3 LTW 8/10 exercise 12/12 neighbour favour? Another check-in.
Decided to get train home from uni yesterday so including the £2.50 train fare into my grocery spends as it's a random small spend. Then got a valentine's card, 45 freezer bags, 4 litres of milk and 15 crumpets for £4.80 so total spend yesterday was £7.30 making my total spend so far this month £48.10/£180. Think that's our food sorted until early next week. Signature updated.Overpay Mortgage by £9,100 in 2013 - £9,316.16/£9,100

Not officially joining the challenge until March, but just posting to remind myself. We have a strict budget of £50 a week for 5 of us and 2 cats, but can extend to £60 next month due to having had a good old sort out of the finances, but want to sit at £50 a week as much as possible, leaving us some spare if there are some good deals on so that we can stock up, and also giving us the chance to treat ourselves once a month£1k emergency fund (#33) £140/£1000 10.4%

Weekly shop today. Spent $56, which is about a quarter of what I would have spent only 6 months ago.
Spent a lovely hour at the local river mouth watching the keen fishers trying to catch supper.
Tomorrow we have planned to harvest and freeze the corn crop. Has not been a good year for it.
Today made apple and strawberry jelly. Its a beautiful gleaming red, and tastes great.
Wishing everyone a great day

A spend of £15.76 in Sainsburys last night on ingredients to make choc truffles for my OH and going to try and make Curry Queen's chicken Korma this weekend. Sig updated. Kayester, your post reminds me of a couple of weeks ago when I defrosted what I thought was shepherd's pie base. To this day I have no idea what the horrible smelling concoction was but like you we had to get takeaway.
Have a lovely day everyone0
