Worth Contacting Esure for Hot Water Problems as part of Emergency Cover?

Hello,

We are having an intermittent hot water issue (we get hot water issue for a minute or two and then stops in bathroom, kitchen works most of the time) for a while now but central heating is working as expected.

We had a local gas safe engineer to look at this and he replaced a pump (costed £100) but it didn't fix the problem. He was not sure about where exact the problem is and was talking about trying something like power flush but before that this problem was fixed on its own.

But now the problem has come back again and I have had an quotation from British Gas for £375 (£99 one off fee + 23*12 for a years cover) and Worcester also quoted about £380.

While I was going through the final phase with BG advisor asked that you don't have any emergency cover or anything just to make sure you don't pay twice for the same cover. Now I have Esure home insurance with Emergency cover and I wasn't sure whether is it worth checking/claiming through with Esure or just go ahead with British Gas?

If I check(just check and not claim or anything) with Esure will it affect my next premium (I read somewhere most of the insurance companies log certain things in the central database whether you make a claim or not)?

If I go ahead with, the fix, Esure Emergency Cover does it affect next premium? If so, how much?

What will be the best thing to do worth trying and checking with Esure or just go ahead with British Gas and get it fixed?

Thank you very much.

Regards,
Manan

Sounds like it needs a service/repair rather than emergency cover.

Check your terms and conditions. What do they call an emergency? Gas or water leak? Risk of fire or other damage?

  • I think emergency cover is for just that emergencies - not intermittent problems.

It sounds similar to a problem I had with hot and cold water - some kind of board in the boiler kept on blowing - £300 a pop BUT I had B G as homecare - they fixed it for the monthly fee
