ideas for baby food for a 6 month old

I have my granddaughter this weekend and I'm not sure what to feed her so would appreciate some ideas.

Tomorrow morning I'm thinking wheetabix with mashed banana. I've tried her on mashed banana and I'm not sure she likes it. I gave her mash & swede this evening and she definitely did not like it! Am stumped now for ideas

Would be very grateful for some suggestions. I don't want to get baby food.

thank you

we started at 4 months just little bits as well as his food and milk and just went from there

she will soon let you know if she dosent like it so it may be good to have a jar, packet or bottle near by

    we tried toast mash yorkshires

be sure to ask permission from the parent tho as some have different ideas about when they think it should be done

at six months my own children and grandkids had whatever we were having - well mashed up! shepherds pie was popular, as was cheesy mash pie with baked beans. (not really an adult meal but my kids loved it).

Ask her parents would be the obvious thing to do.!
  • What instruction have you had from the parents? Many babies are not weaned until 6 months so possible she might just be on mashed apple and pear for one meal and mashed carrot for another while having a large milk intake.

Fromage frais always went down well, plus Ella's kitchen baby food pouches. I know you say you don't want to give jars but for just a couple of days these will enable you to have little preparation and time to see DGD
  • Ps if you are going to have her to stay regularly I would definitely recommend investing in Annabel karmels book for baby food recipes

I'd ask her parents - more than anything else we went through a phase with both of mine where weetabix bunged them right up (now they wolf it down fine but at the time it was a right pain in the neck) - but they might be doing baby led weaning or purees or whatever they're doing and you want to be consistent along with what they're doing and how many meals a day they're offering etc.

Mine were a bit of a random pair of kids - loved chilli and curry from very early on (was having a conversation with the dietician when my youngest was 7 months and she was quite impressed they liked such strong flavours) and the youngest one loves sprouts in particular!

I think I tended to start on mashed root veg with both of mine (pureed if I could be bothered to get the blender out, generally just walloped with a fork a bit) - sweet potato worked well, carrot, that sort of stuff... but they always pull the "what the hell - are you trying to poison me" face with anything new.
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!

Just mush up what you are having, or ask her parents what she likes to eat.
Pay off all my debts before Christmas 2015 #165.
