Best company for co.uk domains?

Background:
Previously I was registered with Namesco, but they double the price for renewals. I do not require hosting, nor have a specific period I would like to register for - my site is currently on tumblr, which meets my needs perfectly at this time. The reason for having a domain name is purely due to continuity, so that items with the url printed on remain useful in all eventualities.

Conditions I'm seeking:
1. Company doesn't charge extra to renew, and does not have hidden fees.
2. Company does not charge you to leave. (Some of them will charge a transfer fee up until your domain expires, which is completely unacceptable, given that if you are transferring it is probably due to another of their sly policies.)

I'm not looking for the cheapest company, but of course that would be an advantage. My only priority is to avoid getting stung if my needs change as the business expands. I'm looking for an honest company, so I don't mind if the initial prices are adjusted upwards to reflect the avoidance of underhanded tactics.

If you have experience with the company, I'd love to hear about it.

123-reg. Flexible as it gets. Not the cheapest. But I've never had a problem with them.
If you're using Paypal, watch out for the autmatic renewal. You can go into your paypal account and delete it there.

No comparison between them and likes of the sharks like uk2 and 1and1.

EDIT: Hopefully this is not another one of those silly Spam threads...
  • I'm no spammer. :)

Can anyone confirm on 123-reg? I've read some pretty bad reviews*, but a lot of that stuff is about the hosting, which tends to obscure any comments about the renewal or transfer fees. It's surprising that there aren't more threads from people who are purely looking to avoid scam tactics.

*nowhere near as bad as the reviews for 1&1!

There isn't a company in the world that will renew your registration for free without any "hidden" clauses.

I have used 123-reg for several years. I can't compare with other companies as I have stuck with them but they do the job fine, the control panel is OK, and their support is OK too.

I've used 34sp.com for years for my hosting and they've generally been great.

The down side is that they're not the cheapest for either domains, or hosting, but they don't pull some of the tricks the cheapy providers have been known to do, and their CS is usually very good (one of the advantages of them being a smaller firm with less customers and a slightly higher price point, they can afford better CS :)).

I've used 123reg, and 1&1. Both have been fine.

I've used 1&1 for more than 15 years for hosting my site, running my email etc. They try to upsell me from time to time - its good to know that they have more commercial offerings if I decide to grow my online business. Its never a hard sell and they're happy if I decline. I can't remember the last outage its been so long.

    No connection with either company.

I've used 1&1 for the last 6 years as my mail domain host (is that the right word) and have *never* had reason to complain
