No secret, it works possibly because I switch to my savings account and back again, sort of refreshing the account balance.
I'm sure I've tried that, but will try again next month.

I find it can take about 30-60 seconds for it to appear as a statement entry on the Halifax account. The overview at the top of the screen can take a few minutes to update the balance and money available amount.

Besides backing out to the account overview screen you could also try pressing F5 to refresh the screen.

OK, I'm the OP and thought I'd feed back what I've done. I deposited £2500 into my new FlexDirect account and the other £1800 into my Clydesdale account. I created a virtual account in my computer budgeting software (called it Clydesdale Sandbox Account) and 'transferred' the £1800 into it, making sure I didn't mark the transfer as cleared. This means that my budgeting software shows me my balance (excluding the money in the virtual account) which is my day-to-day spending balance and also the correct cleared balance according to the bank (which includes the £1800) so I can verify things are OK.

Actually much simpler than it sounds. The money is virtually tucked away so I won't use it, but still in my current account and earning 4% interest.

It's probably because they are about to withdraw vantage and launch some new account. Thread about it over on the savings board.

Yes, just found that out after trying to add Vantage to my wife's third AC.

To be fair though, the phone call was quite painless and they didn't try to sell us anything.
