Once you have wound the wool you join up the ends to make a 'o' before you cut and tie off.

They are great I brought some cheap ones last year and me and ds made some Christmas directions with them.

What a great idea. I would love to see some pictures from anyone to inspire me. Do you have any good ones to post?0 -
I made a gorgeous Halloween pom pom wreath with a pom pom maker. Used orange, yellow and white wool to make it candy corn themed, then added a wooden ghost painted white to the centre. The pom pom maker made the whole creation much easier, altho' making 24 pom poms to go round the frame was no labour of love! I'm now moving on to Xmas wreaths for friends using red, green and white sparkly wool ~ will offset them with a nice big bow at the top.
I would post a link but I've not made enough posts for the site to allow me!Frodo: I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us0 -
I had plastic ones a few years ago and loved them! Some friends and I used to knit together and some of them have young children so we taught them how to make the pom poms because they're really easy and it made them feel included without giving them pointy needles.0

How to make a massive pompom in less that 60 seconds!
I love this and you dont even need a pompom maker!
Just tie round the middle of your big ball of wool nice and tightly. Then snip the top and bottom of the ball of wool. More details here; http://www.handmadecharlotte.com/the-one-minute-giant-pom-pom-technique/0 -

My goodness, plastic snap-together pompom makers were around at least 50 years ago, as I had a set in the 60's called 'Pompom Pets'. Trouble was my Mum and Nan filched them and used them for their own crafting ..... and that was the last I saw of them. Boo!
I have recently bought a brilliant (but expensive for what it is) contraption called a Multipom. Essentially it is a scalloped edged rectangle of heavy coated wire - but it works a dream and you can make loads of poms at once, and any size can be made. Google it - they say the best ideas are the simplest!
I now have a huge bag of different sized cream poms that I am about to sew on a wreath base and then add a big ribbon bow.0 -
I, too, love my multipom0

I've got a couple of pom pom makers and while quick, I found making them the old fashioned way with two circles of thick cardboard gave a better shaped and 'fuller' pom pom! :-)0

This is the type of thing I mean

I went for the Clover Pompom Maker in the end and am very pleased. For a fuller pompom I just wind the wool tighter and get fantastic results. I wish I had known about them years ago!0
