Is it worth travelling 40 miles a day when you only earn NMW?

Only you can decide that, depends on all your other living expenses, or whether you like the job enough.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
How much will it cost you to travel that distance 10 times a week?
Sorry I misread it as 40 miles e/wBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

Depends on how much it costs you, there's going to be a cost difference between bus/train/car. My sister drives to Durham daily (60 mile round trip) which is £5 per day plus, Tyne Tunnel charge, if she took the bus or train it would be £10 a day.0

probably not, if the job is likely to stay min wage or you can not use that job to help you get another. They say it's always easier to change jobs than it is to get a job from the dole?
If you are on the dole and want to get off it, it could give you some breathing space to get yourself sorted and look for better.
Saying that, if it would leave you with less than on the dole then I couldn't take a job like that, as I can hardly make ends meet now.0 -
I was asking this as a more general question, does minimum wage make travelling further for work less appealing?
In my case if I was offered the job and it was NMW I would have to turn it down because I would be left no better off than I am now.0 -

each job is different, it totally depends if you see the job as leading to something else, want to get of the dole as you are keep being sanctioned etc.
I would take a min wage job, that I thought would help me improve my situation long term, but not if the job was clearly a dead end job and I was going to be worse off because of it.0 -

I have done 60 miles there and back before (all public transport) and I want to work so I'd do it again if I had to, yes for NMWWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

you must have a car then, as 60 miles on public transport is not cheap, that's if the buses etc start that early in the morning, as I would think you would have an early start.
If I were to travel 60 miles then it would leave me with less than on the dole, you would have to love the job to do that to yourself, or expect to improve your chance of finding something better.0 -
No I said all by public transport - 60 miles (there and back) not 60 there and 60 back.you must have a car then, as 60 miles on public transport is not cheap, that's if the buses etc start that early in the morning, as I would think you would have an early start.
