Dog Flea Treatment / Worming?

Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster - I wondered if anyone has any advice.

I have a Labrador puppy (8 months), every month so far we have used Stronghold for dual flea treatment and worming - as reccomended by our vet. When we used this last month, I noticed she behaved odddly the next day - pawing at nothing on the floor, licking the air - and the drops left a residue on her fur where it was used. The more I read about conventional flea treatments, the more I am not keen on using them.

A couple of questions I guess
1) does anyone have any opinions on Stronghold as a brand?
2) are there any more natural ways to prevent fleas? She is fed on Natural Instinct dog food so has a good diet.
3) presumably she still needs to be wormed regularly whatever is decided, are there any brands that are better for worming?

Thanks in advance, I didn't think this would class as medical advice but will delete the thread if I am wrong.

I don't use any chemical flea prevention on my dog.

I use Billy No Mates tincture daily on her food plus Biospotix spot on once a month. I saw one flea on two separate occasions last year and I believe it's my cat that brought them home (she's out more than she's in so I do use Advantage spot on with her). I also spray my house once a year with RIP Fleas.

For worming I used to use Panacur liquid but have now started to use Four Seasons Natural Wormer. You can get worm count tests done (other places do them too) if you're worried a natural wormer might not be as effective as a chemical one.

Thanks TomsMum, that's really interesting - I'll have a look into those. Trying to avoid chemicals where possible. I remember when we had a dog when we were kids and she was treated for fleas maybe once a year....different times I suppose! :)
