Do sweet potatoes grow ok? I love them but I think I might be a bit late planting them now?? Is it ok to grow a mixture in the beds - do certain veggies go well together? Last year I grew carrots, turnips, spinach and rocket and they all went well even though it was my first attempt and I did forget to water them quite a bit
Any help/advice is very much appreciated
Hi there - I just had this email offer form T & M , you might be interested (I am quite torn, maybe I'll give it a go myself). The offer is on til Tuesday

Good Morning to all.
The kitchen table seedling farm is going very well.
The pak choi and choy sum are shooting up like crazy, I'm not entirely sure when to pot them on, if I should thin them our first.
The choy sum are only in an egg box right now so I need to get them moved soon.
Radishes are up, wild rocket is showing signs, just under the surface.
So far nothing from my spinach, my runner beans or my peas
Looks like we'll have some sunshine today, it's trying to burst through the morning cloud as I type so here's to a productive day to all.
Signed up for an allotment as well, so in 5-10 years I might be thereWealth is not measured by currency0 -
Applied my Nemaslug last night and then the heavens opened to wash it in.... I leave for a weeks holiday on Wednesday so by the time I get back, the slugs should hopefully be decimated.
My tomatoes are getting towards 10" high now so looks like I might have timed it perfectly to get them going as quickly as possible without them taking over the house before I can get them out in the garden - this will be when I get back.
Courgettes and cucumbers are same as tomatoes, getting big and ready to go out. Need to get carrots, pak choi, lettuces in as soon as possible, hopefully before I go away so they can get a start on for when I get back.
Going to donate my spare plants to my daughters nursery, they love having a go at growing stuff so will be a nice way for my spares to get used.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

I've woken up this morning to find that one of my cucumber plants appears to have been nibbled on during the night - the leaves looked fine yesterday but this morning have bits missing and look like they have been eaten by something. No idea what could have got to them as they are sat on my dining room table (in front of the patio doors so it's nice and bright and warm) and there's no evidence of beasties about - any ideas?
In better news, my climbing beans are coming up and look amazing. I also finally tracked down a variety of pea that climbs up to 1.5m that will go in along the wire fence next to the beans. I can't wait for it to warm up so I can start getting things outside...I'll soon be out of room on the dining room table!
I've been planning what to do with the borders near the house and wanted to get some shrubs to put in for a bit of colour/height. I was quite happy to find that quince like our soil type and position and there are some very pretty varieties - I've ordered one so it will both be a nice shrub in the border and add to the list of edible things we are growingCommon sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Help! My courgettes are looking really miserable. They are potted on, one plant per pot. My hubby is suggesting I tell them jokes to buck them up.....
They look very pale, some of the leaves are withering. I have watered and also given them some tea - dont use chemicals on food. They are indoors still and right next to a patio door with lots of light.

How many leaves do they have? Is it just the germinating leaves (the 1st set of 2) or all the leaves that are suffering?First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -

Ummm, looks like its possibly the second set although I am not sure; have never grown them before. There are like little buds in a very tight ball in the centre of the leaf clump at the head of the stem....is that the 2nd leaves? Sorry, SUCH a newbie!Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

too much watering I think. Get new compost and carefully transplant with as little root disturbance as possible. Don`t water and place in a cooler place, at least during the day, maybe in shade until they recover. Then just give a little water by standing in a tray of water for a short while0 -

Thanks
I thought i might be watering too much but the compost feels quite dry - there is very good drainage in the pots too. I have had another look and there does seem to be a clump of little "nodules" in the middle of the leaf clump - wondering if these first few leaves naturally die off the plant?Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

if it's only 1 set of leaves you may have transplanted them too early and they got a bit shocked. All the other leaves look different from the first pair. I tend to wait until the second pair have a decent size (half of the palm of a hand? ) . Maybe this helps, hope they will recover.First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0
