Helena,
thanks for the reply.
Answers as per below:
Are we the new or old supplier to the property? - Old Supplier
So you moved in to a new property, did you let the current supplier know you had moved in to open a new account for you, with your meter readings and details? When I moved in there were no pre-payment keys. I managed to discover E.On were the current suppliers so phoned them to get new keys. I didn't sign any paperwork opening a new account.
The change of supply process takes around 4-6 weeks so you'll have been supplied by the current supplier for a little while. Fair enough, I had to use E.ON until the new supplier gave me new pre-payment keys. And then after being with new supplier, they changed me over to my current meters.
You should have had a letter joining you to the new company and I understand you have now had the pre-payment meters taken out. Correct. This was all done in April 2012.
Are the bills dated before you took responsibility of the property? As others have said, there is standing charge on Pre-payment meters and if other cards were used payments may have gone to incorrect accounts.
No one ever told me about standing charge (I've never had pre-payment and it was only because they were already there did I have to use them). I've not signed any agreement. I just went to the shop and kept paying cash to top up my keys.
If the balance is before you moved in, then this will be for the previous occupier, but if we don't have a forwarding address for them the letters will go to the last known address. Unless we can be provided with one.
I don't have a forwarding address. The house was repossessed before I moved in.
If you moved in after, then we wouldn't discuss someone else's account with you.

Brilliant thank you!
I'm with you now.
So when you called to let us know you'd moved in, we would then open an account in your name, you don't need to sign as you enter in to a deemed contract when you use the energy.
Did you get a final statement from us when you changed supplier? Even pre-payment should get this.As you called to let us know you moved in with your name and details, it should have been in your name.
Sorry about all the questions, you can email me with the account number, property address at WebForumAdvisors@eonenergy.com and I can take a look for you, if it helps.
