Capital one credit card

My brother has a less than perfect credit history and had a card with capital one which he defaulted on back in 2011. Fast forward to 2014 and he has learned the error of his ways (all be it the hard way). He has just been accepted for an aqua card(they declined him in the past) and has a vanquis card that he's held for about 10 months plus a next account (just recent) and 2 mobile phone contracts - 1 he's had for 3 years.
Can he apply to cap one or is he barred from ever having a card again?
He has paid his vanquis off in full every month and never missed a phone payment.

  • I imagine it'll all be down to Cap One. I suggest perhaps leaving it a little longer if it was only three years ago though.

If he is holding down a Vanquis card AND an Aqua card then I'd suggest he keeps it at that for now before taking on any other cards, if he has too many applications in too short a time frame this can have an adverse affect on his credit score.

Personally I'd leave it a few more years and show through the credit score that I'm good for it.

That's what I initially thought. Will tell him to maybe leave it another year or so. Thanks

Has he settled (fully, partially) the card account in the intervening three years or does he still owe a (presumably not insignificant) amount to CapOne? If the latter is the case, he might activate debt collection efforts by applying to CapOne for another card.

If he has paid fully, CapOne might give him another card, but presumably with a tiny credit limit.

Think it was passed to a dca lowell/lovell? Unsure if anything was set up to pay back - he did the whole 'bury my head in the sand and it'll be ok' thing so I don't think it was.
