Barclay card ppi form

Options
Hi,

I received a letter just before xmas from Barclaycard saying i may have been missold ppi on my credit card.

I filled out the online questionnaire and today i received a letter from them telling me they are investigating. It had a from in it to fill out how i would like to be re paid (Bank account or cheque) but there is also a form for financial difficulty included, which has a list of income and exp to fill out. Why is this included? It says they will investigate financial hardship separately from the ppi claim.

Also even though i have said i want to be repaid into my bank account, i still owe them money on my Barclay card... will they actually give me the money or just ofset it against what i owe them?

Would be really grateful for an advice/help!

A lot of people who paid PPI on the credit cards also have poor money management (you dont borrow on a credit card by choice). So, getting the information on hardship cases at the same time saves work and is seen to be pro-active and treating customers fairly.

They only offset if you are in arrears or have defaulted on payment. If you are within limit and not making late payments etc then you will receive the redress if your complaint is successful.

Did you indicate anywhere that you were in financial hardship? Barclaycard usually only send those forms out to people who've mentioned that in their complaint points (strangely enough quite a few people do, I suspect many think putting this helps their complaint somehow) so they can determine if any form of debt management is required.

You cant report them to the FOS. That FOS has no remit to take action against them. When you go to the FOS is it because you feel the response from them is not satisfactory. The FOS will then decide whether it is or not.

Thank you for the replies, I don't remember putting on the form i was in hardship but i did say that i had missed payments and was over limit because that's one of the Q's on the form.

ernie - what reason did you give them for your complaint?

The complaint procedure is you complain to the Bank and then refer it to the Ombudsman if you disagree with the response.
Are you sure the Bank didn't reject your complaint on the basis that you had no PPI? Otherwise, receiving a reply a day after your complaint sounds ridiculously quick. A full and final response from the Bank generally takes around eight weeks.

That's tantamount to the same thing.

If you're in arrears then the Bank can offset any redress awarded against your unpaid debt.
