believe me, we have read those links before.
If you actually look on a recognised cataloging system there is very little in the way to back up their claims. Being doctors and dentists does not in any way mean they are correct

Didn't know they had been posted here before.

I have alot of respect for Mercola and he's not alone in finding correlations between root canal treatment and cancers.

Just because something doesn't have big budget research behind it, it doesn't mean it isn't true.

It might not have been - but it is very well known in dental circles

Just because something doesn't have big budget research behind it, it doesn't mean it isn't true.

And just because it's on the internet, doesn't mean it is!

The internet is the last resort of the quack after their theories get laughed out of respected journals.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Just remember Dr Andrew Wakefield caused probably one of the biggest public health disasters with his whacky theories on Autism & MMR.

It took off amongst the 'open minded' internet 'experts' who have no idea how to interpret medical data and statistics.

Wakefield was shown to have commercial interests that directed his 'research' and he was rightly struck off and completely discredited for his extremely dangerous bad science.

That problem was also caused by a narrow minded view, just on the other side of the medical profession.

All I'm saying is some people have noticed a link, it hasn't been 99% proved nor disproved.

Re root canal does seam like a bad idea keeping a dead part in someones body.

Conversely just because its on the internet doesn't mean it isn't!

Anti sugar books were banned only a couple of decades ago and only recently WHO finally got to reduce the RDA.

I stopped going to the dentist where they sold aspartame lollipops to children as they are good for them..

there are PLENTY if studies and clinical cases showing all signs of infection in a failed root treatment completely vanishing following successful re treats. Why is it such a bad idea? I have seen with my own eyes people having had persistent problems, evidence of ever enlarging areas of bone loss around teeth. Successful treatment (of which more often than not it is successful) and ALL signs gone. Its hardly coincidence. Evidence on scans showing the bone loss not just stopping but actively filling in. If the body hated these teeth so much it WOULD find some way of getting them out of itself, forceps or not.

If you can find a report that does a half decent job of debunking each part of the Mercola report, please post it so I can read.

It still seams like a bad idea keeping a dead body part in your body.

Very little in medicine is cut and dried. However part of the evidence base that gives a consensus opinion is high quality, peer revised evidence. Unfortunately Dr Mercola has a long history of making pronoucements without this basis http://www.quackwatch.com/11Ind/mercola.html

The peer revised high quality evidence for his claims is just not there and as such medico legally it has proven indefensible as there have been legal cases where a few misguided practitioners have followed this non mainstream thinking. This has been patients instigating complaints once they realise there is no science supporting these claims.

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck - it's a quack.

Looks all like the FDA did is give him some warnings letters about some coconut oil and seaweed with wild unsubstantiated claims (not sure if they were made by the manufacturer or him).

Root Canals are the Most Profitable Procedure in Dentistry, so there is a long long line of people wanting to attack him for damaging their profits.

The best person to judge if your tooth is treatable or not is the dentist that sees it and knows you. If they do not feel they can do it there is no point coercing them because they know your tooth and how it relates to their skills far better than you or I. See what they say and be lead by them. If you arent happy then by all means get a second opinion but dont think its NHS v Private. Its skill and confidence in that skill. Root canal treatment can indeed be extremely complicated but it can also be reasonably straight forward.

Thank you for this, I find it quite reassuring. The main problem I have with my dentist is his reluctance to strongly recommend an option, saying it's up to me. The last time I pinned him down by asking what he would do if he was me. He really is a lovely dentist and knows I'm terrified and hate having any treatment which I think colours his advice as he knows I don't want to be there at all.

Just over an hour to go .....
