Using up the Christmas Stash now that the New Year is here

I've planned the whole of January's meals around leftovers. Stovies, soups, stews, curries, stollen puddings and lots more. The treat bits will go into bits that I normally make during the month anyway - tomorrow I am going to attempt Matchmaker Brownies :j0

We bought enough to see us through, plus treats that were eaten up (mostly by my DSs who grazed their way through Christmas Day and Boxing Day in addition to main meals). But we also ended up with quite a lot of unexpected food that was given to us out of the blue and the bits that we couldn't make use of (allergies mostly eg nuts) got donated to the food bank today. There's nothing left over now.

Personally I would shell the lot and stick them in the freezer in small portions for a earthy anytime snack. The squirrels will survive unassisted.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I hate wasting food too.
My Christmas food waste has been greatly reduced this year to:-
Chicken carcass
An iffy pat! that was starting to ferment
1/2 pot of double cream
Excess broccoli (small portion) from Christmas Day
Cauli cheese (tiny portion) from Christmas Day.
200ml gravy.
For the rest of the year, I use a lot of home grown veg - it is my festive treat to myself to use frozen, less prep, less hassle, can stock 90% of Christmas food in the freezer.0 -
I didn't buy too much this year in fact I was just polishing my halo about this today.0

Please do not give nuts to grey squirrels, they have doneenough damage to the native red squirrels of these islands.

We dealt with it this year by not buying the stuff in the first place! We plotted the whole of Christmas in fine detail and just picked out a couple of treats that we fancied. Harder for those with families or Christmas guests but it worked great for us. Leftover cheese is being used up in the daily sandwiches.
Yep.
We bought a bit more than usual because DH was on holiday for the longest time EVER :j:j:j:j. But real meal food.
We took the line that mostly food we wanted would be home made, so no need for significant extra 'goodies'.
I DID but some crisps (4 times big packs) but they won't go off, so no problem.
We did make some extras, we took a box of candy to a party this evening, and the rest will go to work with DH on Monday.
Otherwise meals have been a little more indulgent but no terrible excess that cannot be incorporated or frozen.
Some things lay down. Christmas puddings store for future years, I know this because we have lots of old Christmas puddings because DH buys them in London because he wants them after Christmas, but then cannot eat them all. He's not there to do it this week, and we ate one of his delicious stash, a mere four years beyond its date this year0
