refund query

I hope I am posting in the right place, being going round and round in circles on the forums to find where to post.
I ordered some items on line and paid by debit card. When the items arrived I decided to send them back for a refund.
since then I have a new debit card and the old one that I made the payments with is no longer in use. How do I go about getting a refund as the company tell me if it can't go back on the original card I can't get a refund, really? so they can keep the goods and my money?
Is there a way around this, any help would be great.

Are they a UK company and were you returning them under DSRs or their own returns policy (can only be the latter if your statutory rights ran out/didn't apply, policy doesn't overrule your rights)?

The retailer can refund to an expired card. You will then need to contact your bank to get the money transfered from the expired card..
  • If your account is the same but with a new card, it'll show up but just take a little longer. I had this problem once and the bank assured me it'd be fine and it was :)
  • They refund it to the card you paid with.

Assuming you have the same account etc still then it should automatically find its way into your account. If you have changed banks or account details then it may go into the suspense account of the branch where your account was formally held in which case you will need to contact your former branch to arrange for it to be transferred again to you.
  • Thanks very much for your replies, helped a lot
