Entrance Signs and One Way Systems

I understand it is in the code of conduct that PPCs should have signs at each entrance to a car park.

What if you use an entrance which (due to the negligence of the PPC) does not have any signs and go through to another part using a section of private service road/car park which has signs resembling the "no-entry" type which we frequently see on public highways and in the Highway Code.

So what I am saying is if you enter the car park using an entrance where there are no signs and you ignore the so-called no-entry signs (as it is private property) does it weaken their argument for giving you a parking ticket in the area where they might assume you ought to have seen the signs on entering if you used the 'proper' entrance?

Sorry for the waffle. Hope this made sense!
cheers
Les

Are you asking if a PPC has fully compliant signs at the entrance, but you can sneak in the back way and use the car park can they issue a charge?

Yes they could but it would not make it any more collectable. They can issue a charge if you do everything right, so a small point of entering without passing a sign would not put them off.

Have we seen a POPLA win on inadequate signage? We have seen a few at court, but I wouldn't like to take my chance with a judge by saying I didn't see the signs cause I snook in the back way!
  • Surely it doesn't matter one iota how you 'cause' a ticket to be issued??

You appeal to POPLA on GPEOL and win....job done.

To be honest, if they are signs which say No Entry, why go in? There would be no offer to park.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

I think he was referring to signs with symbols that look like official No Entry signs, not signs that say "No Entry".
Optimists see a glass half full :)
Pessimists see a glass half empty :(
Engineers just see a glass twice the size it needed to be :D

Yep - in the POPLA decisions thread, there was a Fistral Beach one where the signs were not lit, it was dark when the OP parked and yet PE in their infinite 'wisdom' submitted a stock photo of a sign in daylight!

I agree, in this case the OP is barking up the wrong tree and will win at POPLA on the usual: 'no GPEOL' or 'no standing/authority/contract with landowner'.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
