Please can someone who regularly shop at Waitrose advise? It is not my regular shop so I don't know. Today I went to a Waitrose to pick up something nice for the New year celebration. As tomorrow this Waitrose is closed, there were a lot of bargains in the store. I grabbed few things (6 in total) and went to pay for these. I gave the cash and also handed my Waitrose membership card. The sale assistant took the cash but refused to accept the Waitrose card by saying that "It is pointless to take to use the card as you have reduced food. There is no discount for reduced food with Waitrose card". I did not say anything, she gave me receipt and I left the store. She was unfriendly and she said it so loud that other customers have turned their heads that I felt quite embarrassed. It not if I wanted the additional discount, I always use the loyalty cards where I shop. I felt a bit embarrassed and humiliated. Was she right about this policy?

Kiwi07, I think you were really unlucky to get a miserable Waitrose SA as in my local Waitrose they are all lovely. You can use your MyWaitrose card whenever you buy anything, even if its reduced because you get entered into a prize draw to win the cost of your shopping back. Sometimes items have 10% off (for example) with the card and this gets taken off even if the product has been reduced. Hope your next trip is more pleasant. Happy New Year to all :)

You can use your My Waitrose card on reduced items - on xmas eve I got a Turkey Crown reduced from £49 to £12.50, it then took £4.90 off at the till for the My Waitrose Card discount.

You can use your card on reduced stuff like TanH said you get entered into a comp it's a way of keeping an eye on what you are buying and how frequently you shop in there etc, I personally would call customer services and complain about the rudeness of this staff member I wouldnt mention about the discounts as that's a bonus, next time your there if you buy reduced stuff pick up one of the magazines then they will have to take the card so that you get it for free and then the discounts will come off as well ;). I've spoken to C/S before and they are lovely.

Usually Waitrose staff are very good so I am surprised. She should still have run it through against the card - the card enables them to track the type of goods you're buying & so they then know what offers you may like- it's not about further reductions.

I regularly use my card on reduced stuff - not for the extra discounts as I dont really take much notice of them TBH, like you I dont really do my main shopping there but make sure I do use the card when I buy stuff as I get the free daily cuppa there so by using the card at least they can see that I do actually buy something too from time to time.

Never had a problem myself, sometime I even get surprise bargains if I buy more than one reduced item & there is an offer on at the full price of say buy 2 save £1 - it takes the saving off reduced items too & they always honour it - you just need to make sure the total doesn't go to a minus :rotfl:

I have filled a customer satisfaction survey and explained what happened at their store. There was no name of that sale assistant on the receipt so I doubt they can identify her but I would like her supervisor to have a word with her so she will learn about their policies and how to treat their customers even if they buy reduced food.

I would imagine that through the receipt they would be able to identify her as presumably they have to log on and off.

I'm really surprised by your experience, as in my local Waitrose they always ask me if I have a mywaitrose card. Even buying only reduced stuff, if you spent over £5 you would have been entitled to a free paper. I'm sure you will get at least an apology from them.

At the bottom of the receipt there should be the date/time and a few other numbers or combinations of letters and numbers . If you quote all of these they will be able to track who served you.

I used my MyWaitrose card on discounted items yesterday and received further discounts too which made my 10p purchases even sweeter. As Little Waitrose was open only from 10-16:00 - they discounted everything dated 1 Jan 2014 to 10p. :rotfl:

Received e-mail from Waitrose customer services with an apology. The e-mail says that they will investigate it but if I want to discuss it further then I have to make myself known to the store manager when I am next in the store. I don't really want to do it to be honest. I have e-mailed back giving them some extra details from my receipt in hope they will be able to track who served me.
