A few months ago i got a invoice of £226 out of the blue from some company called Unicom http://www.switchingon.com/.
I rang them they said i had a phone line at a shop which is 3 miles away from my home address and that their traces are 99% accurate.
I went police station they said report it to action fraud and till this day action fraud havent responded.
I paid a visit to that shop and got the landlords phone number which i gave it to these people, they rang him but he didnt get back to them.
Today they rang me for final time saying they will issue a ccj against me and mess up my credit record i tried telling them its i.d fraud but they werent having it.
He said we done a credit search on you and we know its you.
What can i do here?
I can easily go to the landlord and deal with it my own way but police have told me you could be arrested for even going to the shop and harrasing them.

Just tell them to go away and harass someone else. 99% accurate search. I presume you have a similar name to the person they want.
Write them a nice letter saying you owe them nothing. Any further contact from them will be given to a solictor and all charges will be claimed from them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
So their threat to pay by tomorow 4pm or face a ccj is just a scare tactic?0

Yes totally
They cant just issue a ccj in any case at all!, it would have to go through the whole small claims process
So dont be swayed by their silly threatsProud to be a member of the Anti Enforcement Hobbyist Gang.:D:T0 -
I'd put it in writing that it is not you, the invoice does not apply to you and send it so its signed for.
That way if (which I doubt) it does come to court, you can prove that you told them it was not you.
It is worth keeping an eye on your credit report - I had an individual use my name after I moved house and it took months to sort out all the accounts. FYI - big companies have fraud teams, if this is a large company speak to their fraud team. Good luck.Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -

You need to put this in writing and get proof of posting (free from the Post Office). Hang on to it in case you need it later:

FORMAL COMPLAINT OF HARRASSMENT AGAINST UNIVERSAL UTILITIES LIMITED
On or around [date] I received an invoice from you for £226 for a service which your company claimed I had contracted for a business at [address] but which I knew nothing about.
Although it was nothing to do with me, I visited the premises and obtained contact details which I passed on to you.
However, despite my attempt to assist you, you have persisted in harrassing me for a debt which I do not owe, culminating a call on a public holiday on New Year's Day this year telling me you intend to seek a County Court Judgement against me.
I demand a formal apology from you personally and compensation of £100 for the distress and inconvenience you have allowed your company to cause me. Should this not be forthcoming, I shall report the matter to OFCOM.
Should I receive any further demands or threats from your company, I shall make a formal complaint to the Police that I am being harrassed by Universal Utilities Limited and that this is done with the knowledge of, and presumably sanctioned by, you personally.
I look forward to receiving your apology and remittance.
Yours sincerely0 -
Oh dear - what a lot of needless busy work, and a letter that will have them in stitches.
Harassment is an emotive term, but it has to be considerably more than a DCA chasing a debt, that is allowed. If the target is misplaced, then they need to be told, and to ignore it repeatedly before you get to the first rung of 'harassment'.
Next, OFCOM. This organisation have no interest in such matters - they do not represent individuals but are a trade regulator only. As to the compensation claim of £100 - this is the final straw that will sink any justification of being hard done by.
Lastly, the police will make soothing noises and suggest you consult a solicitor. Criminal harassment is nothing like this, but a good start for a civil one - one in which you will be required to pay for yourself.
All you need do is deny the debt, advise you have no connection with the services supposedly provided, and you will fully protect your interests, in court if need be. Further, your costs will be fully itemised and you will seek recovery of all your costs and fees in this matter.
Direct, no histrionics or bluff and puts the ball in their court, Literally.0 -

A more concise one would be
Dear morons; You must have worked out this is not my debt by now. As such, I will happily defend in full any court proceedings you may issue. Bye bye.Still rolling rolling rolling......<

Tell to get on with this CCJ as fast as humanly possible, even offer to help them fill in the forms.
Then say for once at a court, I will take great pleasure in watching the district judge bang on your thick skull that if you have allowed someone to defraud you using false details, YOU are the victim, not me.
I have no contract with you, you have been the victim of a fraud, not me and begger off and deal with it.
Or get on with this CCJ as you need a good laugh.
PS any futher correspondence in this matter is charged at £45 per hour or part of, by continuing to correspond, you contractually agree to accept the consideration and offer of employing my administration skills which shall be charged at £45 per hour or part off in dealing and replying to any more silly letters you send.Be happy...;)0
