Headphones Broken - Warranty Return

Hi Guys,

Basically I purchased a pair of Beats headphones for my son 14 months ago from Amazon and as of New Years Eve they have stopped working.

I have approached Amazon to get the items repaired under warranty on the basis of the fact that they have a manufacturers 2 year warranty plus I believe the 1999 European Directive gives all electrical items an inherent 2 year warranty.

Now perhaps I am wrong about this but would appreciate if anyone could either correct me or if true how to pursue further with Amazon.

All comments will be greatly received.

Matt

If rhey have a 2 year warranty they will be repaired/replaced/refunded under this warranty,

The other one is irrelevant so I wouldn't even bother bringing it into the eqation.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • As there is a manufacturers 2 year warranty then it is them that you should be contacting and not Amazon.
A warranty is nothing to do with the retailer unless the goods in question were purchased directly from the manufacturer.

In the directive you refer to, warranty doesn't mean the same as the usual meaning of it.

It simply refers to the period that you have a claim against a retailer if the goods don't conform to contract - however here in the UK we're given 6 years from purchase in England and 5 years in Scotland from discovery - so well above the 2 years mandated by the directive.

Amazon are pretty good with warranties. Many times they have sent me a replacement with next day delivery and I had 1 month to return the faulty items. So speak to them and see what they say. I would be really surprised if they don't resolve your problem to your satisfaction

What is the fault? If it is cable or socket damage, that will probably not be covered under the warranty.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

In addition to this, I'd the ear-drivers have been blown (it takes a really high voltage to do this) that won't be covered either. Have you found out what happened between them working, and then not?

Yanking the cable to burst the conductors isn't a warranty issue, so with relatively few returns for out of the box failures (I have a set too!) it would be hard to claim an inherent reliability issue.

Amazon are very good as long as the item is under manufacturers warranty.

I had an acer monitor fail after 6 months. Acer wanted me to return it to them at my cost before they would send me out a refurbished monitor. As I often work from home, I'd be without a PC.

Amazon sent me out a new monitor within the hour, and gave me a month to return the old one. And paid the return postage. I assume (and hope) they pass these costs onto their suppliers.
