Experian/Credit Expert Hoax?

First post and I am sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I have had a LOT of issues with Credit Expert/Experian. At first, when I signed up to the free trail, I didn't want to continue it, but it was actually a very helpful service, so I kept signed on. Ten months ago I decided that, with my amazing credit rating as high as it could go (999 :) having been that for six plus months) I was in a position to not need the services of Experian anymore. So I called up and spoke to a young girl who asked me if I wanted to stay on and I said no, she said if I call back within six months I'd get something or other, I wasn't really listening. I asked her the question "Is that it then? I am no longer signed up?" she replied "No.".

Low and behold, a few months later if the payments don't start coming out AGAIN. So I e-mailed them (I was in work at the time) and after a few back & forth replies, I was asked to call. So, I called up and spoke to a different girl and I was told the same, that it was okay to leave and my payments would stop coming out. Upon asking the question regarding why I wasn't removed straight away, I was told "There was no record". Angry, but without a leg to stand on, I just accepted that it was a clerical mistake and moved on.

I received a phone call from Experian, by a very nice guy on December 18th, explaining that I was going to get a refund for the ten months that I have been charged for the service, which I was very happy about.

Low and behold if another £14.99 payment has been taken out. Now, has anyone else received a "Refund" phone call from them? Was it a hoax? Can I reclaim the money they have taken from me legally? I will be seeking legal representation either way, but I am getting angry that they are taking money from me. I will be going into Natwest at my first available opportunity and tell them to block any further taking of monies from my account.

Can anyone help?

There's only one HOAX here and that's the meaningless 999 score they sold you in the first place.

  • I have e-mailed the address displaying James, however I will still be seeking legal help regarding the issue. Its really, really poor service and to have fallen through the net, three times, is inexcusable. I am owed just over £150 for a service I've never used except to get my own details to cancel my account, three times.

I am upset, annoyed and it is causing me worry that these payments will force me to miss other, more vital payments that I cannot afford to miss.

Forget the "legal help" (and it's associated costs*), with what you've put here I'd say you'd get considerably more in compensation and/or ex-gratia (goodwill) payment - as well as your issue resolved - by making a formal complaint of Experian, with follow up to the FOS if necessary. You should be aware that once you've started litigation, you won't then be able to approach the FOS.

    * If an unauthorised £14.99 payment one month might mean you can't afford to pay another bill, I'd question whether you can afford litigation?
