Hope someone can enlighten me on mum query.
Mum has accepted she now needs extra help shes 75. I am the youngest daughter, single, and on ESA. She would prefer me to help her or if not a local agency. What amount would be taken from her Pension/DLA she gets guaranteed pension and DLA [higher rate] and something else which i'm not sure what it is but will ask her.
TIA Maureen

If carers allowance is claimed, she'll lose the severe disability premium. Her DLA won't be affected.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

So pension is safe then?? Also would i have any reduction in my ESA benefit..0

To give further help we really need to know the exact circumstances.
So
Are you living with your mum? Anyone else living there?
Exactly what benefits are you and your mum claiming? (You can look at the award letters to find out - we need to know if they are income or contribution based)0 -
hello pm lady
right this is what i know from mum.
guaranteed pension + savings credit. i wasnt aware that the severe disability premium was part of that when i said that comment above. dla higher rate and attendance allowance higher rate.
I am on Income related ESA and in the wrag group and get £100-15
she lives alone but i want to move in to hers and give my council 1 flat house up but dont know if i am allowed to do this.
I believe i'll lose some of my ESA and she will lose the severe disability premium but i'll have my esa made up with looking after her. am i right?? My mum thinks i'll get the money she has taken off her on top of my esa, but, i dont think so..0 -

could you be thinking about carers allowance
https://www.gov.uk/carers-allowance
Your ESA would only go up if you have applied for this0 -
anmarj i was looking at that page this afternoon. So is my mum right in that i will keep my £100-15 a week and get the £59-75 a week, they dont make it easy to work out do they!!.0

First of all your mum cannot be claiming DLA and AA. It is one or the other!
Did you mean high rate care DLA and high rate mobility DLA?
Your mum needs to be claiming mid or high rate DLA for you to be able to claim Carer's Allowance.
If you claim Carer's Allowance this would be deducted from your ESA because your ESA is income based. But they will award you an extra £33.30 in the form of a Carer's Premium.
So you would receive your present ESA minus the Carer's Allowance amount but plus the Carer's Premium and plus the Carer's Allowance. (Hope this makes sense!) Basically you would be better off all told by £33.30.
BUT your mum would lose her severe disability element in her Guarantee Pension Credit which is £59.50 because she cannot receive this if someone is claiming Carer's Allowance for her.
So you and your mum have to think long and hard about whether you should claim the Carer's Allowance as it will make your mum worse off.
You do not need to be living with your Mum to claim CA. If you are in council housing then you need to think carefully about giving up this secure tenancy.
Also please ask for an adult social services assessment for your Mum so that you can make sure that she is receiving the help and support that social services can provide.0 -
Have i read this correctly.
My mum will lose the SDP if i move in, also if i didnt but wanted to claim CA on her behalf she would still lose the SDP. Now i can understand her saying that it'll be better if i moved in makes things easier for us and she'll only lose the SDP and nothing else.
PS@ pmlindyloo yes, sorry.0
