How many times do you ask for a better quote?

I got my quote for car insurance through the post. A lot of the comparison sites were coming up with similar prices.

Aviva were keen to get my business and came out slightly cheaper after they called me, I phoned my current insurer who knocked almost £40 off the renewal price.

Aviva couldnt match that. But another insurer also used by the club quoted me almost £40 less than the new price from my current insurer.

Do i phone my current insurer yet again to see if they can beat it or just go with the new company? I feel like i am wasting their time keep goinbg backwards and forwards.

Im sure they said my no claims was protected in the price which i dont normally bother with.

Strange that im getting cheaper quotes this year when nobody could touch my renewal last year.
Direct line wanted almost £1000 last year but £600 this year. No changes on my part.

So you nor your car has gotten a year older since last year?

In theory your insurance should go down each year assuming everything remains identical up to a certain age. Obviously this is balanced by inflation and changes in legislation.

Its up to you how much you want to shop around and go back and forth. Your unlikely to "lose" a quote by asking them to undercut again but you have to work out how much your time is worth to you.

Up until this year mine was simple, I knew my insurers would always cut around 20-25% off my renewal price so go onto the aggregators to make sure its still the right ball park (it always was) then phone them up saying I've had a much lower quote and whats the best they could do. They'd give me the discount and I'd say its about the same so may as well stay with them. Job done

This year I went elsewhere as I had a brand new car and my prior insurers dont do the new vehicle replacement unlike most insurers so may be shopping around this year

Well i am lazy and feel like i am wasting their time getting quote after quote..

The new company just phoned and its £100 cheaper than my renewal. So i have gone with them and paid. Been a while since my insurance was under £350.

My paper licence seemed to cause confusion. Why do i not have a photo card. Because i dont need one.

And because you havent moved address, changed your name, lost it or anything else that triggers requesting a new license and thus forcing a photo one on you

Seemed to be a big issue though. As though they had never come across this issue before.

Surely i cannot be the only person that still has a paper licence. Also seemed a little confused on different categories and different expiry dates.
