Hi

We have a strange one , our 2006 model rav , during the holidays , once morning , the passengers sides , front and back , were sopping wet underneath the floor mats , with no visible signs of where the water came from.

So i ran my eye the best i could over all the seals , and other than slight dampness on the inside of the sunroof , cannot for the life of us see where it came from (no staining anywhere in the car upholstery)

So , dried it up best we could , and checked the car every day or so , and its been OK , yesterday ,massive rain fall , today , lo and behold , absolutly sodden again , but cannot see where its ingressing!

We are befuddled! , who do we approach to check all our seals etc , and does anyone have any ideas of how so much water can get in , with no visible signs of how it got there!?

We have had only 1 or 2 frosty nights in the last 3 weeks!

Cheers

Probably coming in through the bulk head into the passenger compartment.

You might need to check some of the car specific forums but there could be a drain hole blocked under the bonnet or a rubber grommet that has loosened that is allowing water in.

    As above.

There are usually drain pipes from the sunroof frame that exit under the car, these are prone to blocking with leaves, but the usual symptom is a cascade of water when you go round a corner.

Leaves tend to get into the air intake for the heater and block the drain holes then the water comes in through the heater. On my MK1 the heater chamber is all on the passenger side.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Cheers guys , i did put it on rav4 forum as well and the helpful chaps over there also suggest sunroof drains , i will check thoroughly when back from work

I just collected our other rav 4 (older) from its MOT and the guy there also said its a case of eliminating every possibility , so will go over the car with a fine tootcomb in daylight at the w/e

I know when my former car has a water ingress issue the garage basically set up a hose pointing at a part of the car, left it running checking occasionally, after a while move it somewhere else. Obviously start at the bottom and work up to avoid it being the water running down getting into somewhere else

Some cars have a drain for the sun roof it could be blocked thus causing your flooding. Does the rav4 have a owners forum others might have experience the same fault.

Another one I've come across is people not replacing the plastic sheet behind the door liner properly (or at all). This lets water track in from the side windows, down inside the door to the floor.

Also a normally dry car can leak like a sieve when parked on slopes of a certain direction...
Would you say that to a stranger's face in the street? No? Then why type it on a forum?

Yes this is what I was going to say. Is the car parked on a slope in any direction? You could try toyota owners clubs and then select the rav 4 forum too (which may be different to the rav 4 forum you already found, theres rav4 world too).
