Rooting a Kindle Fire HD

I have found some links on Google on how to do this (CNet) but the downloads you need (ADB?) seem to be not working. Has anyone on here ever rooted their Kindle Fire? And if so how difficult is it to do?

Not rooted a Kindle Fire, but have rooted many Android phones and an older Kindle. Generally it is not difficult if you follow the instructions to the letter and those instructions have come from a good source.

The bigger issue is that you need to be happy up front that you could destroy your nice piece of tech in the process with no come-back.

My opinion: Gadgets are there to be played with, get stuck in and it will go one of two ways ;)
Would you say that to a stranger's face in the street? No? Then why type it on a forum?

As above and XDA forums best .

But you need a reason to root as it does nothing by itself .
    It will void warranty
and may brick your device though highly unlikely to .

I had my eye on a Kindle HD when Amazon were advertising them over the festive period. I read that the device can be rooted but it got me thinking, how good of a tablet is the Kindle HD after rooting?
Is it worth spending £179 and rooting it? In terms of functionality and features would it be better than say a Samsung Galaxy?

No different to before rooting all root does is give you a deeper level of administrators rights .
but you can install various custom roms .
use Themes and some apps that require root to work ,
    install google Play store .

Thanks for all your replies. Yes I know it will void the warranty, that's why I am hanging back from doing it. I was only thinking of it to get access to more apps and google play.
