Wedding loan?

I don't need a lot, I've priced it all out to just under 6k, but if I have a low credit score, can I get a wedding loan for that 6k, or at least some of it?
If all else fails, buy a new pair of shoes.

it's not a lot so could you save it instead?

what do your credit files actually show

    what is your income
  • I'm paying everything off at the moment, I have 3k to go. I earn enough to save up, but only if I don't pay off what I owe. I have a default against my name from 4 years ago after a mix up with a store card and my new address.

My partner hasn't been in the uk long enough to work or to claim or to take out a loan. (He's American and has a six month wait to do anything)

Is the defaulted account paid off or still being paid?
Do you have any other late payments or any other negatives on your credit file?

Are you currently paying just the contractual amount/minimum payments on your existing debts? or are you overpaying more than you need?

What are the interest rates on your existing debts?

Can't you just postpone the wedding for a while?

You essentially haven't paid back what you already owe and now you are looking to borrow more to pay for a wedding? Not the best start to married life, wait a while and save up.
    :p
  • We have to be married within 6 months, or yes, I would postpone it.

I'm going to pay everything off over the next two months, which my wages will cover, and start from there.

If it's an emergency shotgun wedding you need, you should be able to do it for under a couple of hundred quid, I'd have thought?
  • £80 standard fee for a basic registry office wedding.

Can you do this and then have a big party when you've saved up?

Getting into debt is no way to start married life.
Have a basic wedding that you can afford.

Would taking out a loan affect the financial requirements you have to comply with for the fiance visa?

Getting married doesn't cost £6K - Having a wedding can do though.
Nothing to stop you popping down the registry office now just the two of you and then having a "big day" later complete with a blessing or ceremony of some kind - People don't even need to know it's not the real thing. I have friends whose religion doesn't allow certain categories of people into their temple so legal weddings can't be performed there-so most people have the civil ceremony first at a registry office- and then the temple ceremony - they don't feel any the less married for it.

A £6K loan for what is essentially a party sounds a bit crazy when you're doing well at clearing your debt and could then save up.
