Cat tracking device - can anyone recommend one?

Hello there - we recently lost our darling cat for five days over Christmas. Thankfully (soooooo many tears later) our cat returned looking tired and smelling musty as if he'd been shut in a shed or garage.

While he is tagged and chipped it's made us a bit nervous about letting him out and while I know this is the first time something like this has happened I'd like to buy a 'cat tracking' device for peace of mind.

Seen these on the internet (Mamoboast I think it is offer one?) come with a collar and device like a GPS thing where you can go online at home and it locates your cat's exact position. Not sure how effective this would be within sheds/houses/garages so if anyone has used one would be good to know which ones?

Once tried a 'Loc8tor' tracker for around £60 but although it promised a big radius was next to useless unless he was sitting in a clear line of sight......

Any thoughts/suggestions/help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

This is supposed to be brilliant - not that cheap, but worth it for peace of mind.

  • Yes g-paws in definitely one of the best one on the market.
  • I think that just tells you where its been when its returned and you dowload the data. I dont think it tells you where it is whilst its out.If that makes sense.

As dandelionclock30 says, it only tells you where your cat has been once it's returned. So, not useful for finding a lost cat.

I would also be concerned about attaching this to a collar. I have major reservations about cat collars for good reason. Adding another hazard to it that could get caught just seems to be asking for trouble.
  • thanks for suggestions and thoughts - yes you're right the one suggested above definitely does look like it just shows 'where' they've been rather than any help in actually 'finding' them.

Always a tricky one as I don't want to have to rig poor puss up with some major contraption every time he wants to pop out to play but just after something that would give us that peace of mind knowing he can be more easily found it he gets trapped in a shed/garage/house.

Will keep looking but thanks for postings.

Any tracking device that uses GPS for positioning will not work inside a building, GPS needs line of sight to the satellite.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it
  • You might want to consider Mogalicious's FindMe tag (mogalicious dot com). It's basically a (small) tag for the collar with a code on it. Any smartphone can scan the code, and when they do, you get an e-mail with a map showing where the code was scanned.

It won't let you look up where the cat is if you feel like it, but it does mean anyone that finds your missing cat can tell you where they are without needing to call you. It also works indoors and is ridiculously accurate.

Maybe not what you're looking for, but might offer some peace of mind? I don't know if any that work like "Find My iPhone" for cats, which is what I think you're after.
