Hi all,
We are hopefully getting a rescue cat in the next couple of weeks.
I have been researching online about cat flaps and like the sound of a sureflap cat flap that works with the microchip.
The quote ive had back so far has been around £380 to instal one into double glazed door.
This is a massive amount of money, it may however be the going rate and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of companies they have used that are good tht i might contact for a quote to compare (we are in Surrey) or if cat owners have any other suggestions.
Thanks, Frances.

We got a rescue cat/kitten on 7 December, and I have an email quote of £58 for the labour to put a cat flap into the lower (non glazed) panel of a Uvpc door. We haven't actually had it done yet though.
We are in Croydon and I will PM you the firm's details (not sure that it would be right to put them on here).0 -
As far as I'm aware you need a complete new sealed unit with a hole in it for a catflap which is why it'll be expensive.
We asked a friend to remove the lower sealed unit from our UPVC door and replace it with plywood (2 sheets 24mm together to make up the depth). He then fitted the catflap as "normal" in the plywood. The sealed double glazed unit is in the loft if we ever need to replace it.0 -
Hi, my OH is a UPVC fabricator, so hopefully this will help. Assuming you have two panels in your door, one above and one below the mid rail. If the bottom panel is glass, then you have two choices,
a) get a new glass panel made up, you will need to buy the cat flap first and provide the template for the cat flap when you order the new glass. The hole needs to cut before the glass is tempered. Or b) replace the glass panel with a PVC panel instead and install the cat flap in this.
If you already have a PVC panel in the bottom, then it will depend on whether the panel is 'moulded' or plain. If moulded, it may be necessary to buy a plainer panel to fit the flap in. It will allow a flush fit, and allow you to install the flap at a suitable height for the cat.
Who did you contact for the quote, it seems fairly high to me ? It's difficult to say how much the panels should cost, because it will all depend on the size and type of panel required.
My OH, just told me that a plain PVC panel would be no more than £50 for a standard size door, that's reasonably new. You need to add in labour, but I'd say 2 hours maximum (PVC). It's a relatively simple job.
Glass would be dearer, and I'm not able to offer any guidance on price, sorry.0 -
Thankyou for the replies I've just checked the quote again. It is just over 370 for double glazed including the catflap materials and labour.and 330 for upvc. The labour cost was the hefty bit at 190.0

We had a bottom moulded panel. A local double glazing firm supplied a flat bottom panel and cut hole in it for cat flap then fitted it for £65 when I had mine done. I've kept moulded panel incase I need to put it back at some pointHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

if its sure flap cat flap that you are getting and that includes the price of the flap then actually its not a bad quote...we paid around £120 for our sure flap and extention tunnel without fitting...so if its included in the quote I dont think its bad...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Maybe it's me being tight, but I still think £190 for labour is too much, is that quote from a local handy man or from a local UPVC company?. I'd be looking to get a 2nd quote at very least.0

Thanks again for the posts. Ive had a quote back from another company which looks to be a bit cheaper. Will keep researching.0
