I have only ever charged my Tom Tom by connecting to my computer with the USB socket. Any other way you could ruin the sat nav.

If its a usb charger it will be 5 Volts. The only problem may be a lower amp output which will result in longer charging times. I charge mine with a universal usb charger without problem.

You can use any microUSB charger, don't worry about TomTom saying you need to use their overpriced cable.

+1 for that - I've used an HTC charger and now use my Samsung charger, just changing the lead to suit.

Probably the other way around. The S2 charger puts out approx 1 amp, Double what the PC USB ports supply.
