Many thanks for all your ideas......I've managed to find a loose thread inside the sleeve and on checking the reverse of the "leather" found it to be lovely and clean and white (jacket is black) and I would have thought the reverse would be dark after the dying process........

I can't decide now if I should just get him to take it back or if I should take it to Trading Standards.....

I wanted to know about checking if it was genuine leather or not as the price is extortionate if not and nicer non leather jackets can be bought for a fraction of what he paid!

    Many thanks again

I would contact trading standards - they may already be aware of these jackets. I am taking your word they are fake - but, as I don't know of any pure white leather that hasn't been dyed and as that's expensive it is unlikely that it would be used on the inside where it cant be seen.
I have always found them extremely helpful.
I did see a progamme recently which questioned This Stores labelling. apparently they make a lot of 'Mistakes'.

See if there is a mark like this printed on the leather anywhere:

The label proves nothing, the country is awash with fake goods with labels that are hard for even trading standards to spot.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
