housing benefit and overtime

hi need some advice here i get housing benefit and work 16 hrs week over christmas
i did 72 hrs. extra and now worried will this effect benefit i have not told landlord this yr due not being open but now worried

am i going to have to pay more rent which can not afford to do just for doing overtime so i could get carpets for my house as we had nothing

also now i will be going back to my normal hrs after 12 January week

how does this all work

    You will definitely have to tell them, yes, it will affect your housing benefit.


    No way around it, I am afraid.


    You will just have to save up gradually for your carpets.

  • i have bought carpets with the wages i got last week so im bit stuck now i have my rent saved which do every 4 weeks its just all confusing as this first time i have done overtime

    Just let them know as soon as you can and do as much overtime you can till you go back onto normal hours.

    Send your wage slip in to your local council, they will adjust it for a month then it will go back to normal with your next wage slip x
  • ok will tell them tomorrow when pay my usual rent will they be wanting extra rent tomorrow

    Why are you replacing carpets in a rental property? Isn't that the landlord's responsibility?
