Faulty Iron

Hi. I bought an expensive steam generator iron from Argos in August but within a week it had malfunctioned. I returned it to the store and they exchanged it for a different model with no quibble. Now this one has gone on the blink (not having much luck with irons!) and my question is, do I return it to Argos or contact the manufacturer as it was purchased almost 5 months ago now? Thank you.

Retailer as you entered into the contract with them, item will be assumed to be inherently faulty (if within 6 months from purchase, after 6 months its up to consumer to prove its inherently faulty) and you usually have better rights under your statutory rights then you do any contractual one (since contractual rights can have limitations etc).
However sometimes it can be quicker going through the manufacturer direct - its always better to contact argos in the first instance to see what they offer. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Thank you. I will try taking the iron back tomorrow and see what they say.0

As it's under 6 months the burden of proof is on the retailer and it's assumed that the item is inherently faulty.
Take it back to the retailer as your contract is with them.
You can ask for a refund, but they can choose to give you a replacement, repair or a partial refund (rescission s.48C (2) SOGA)."Nothing, Lucilius, is ours, except time." - Seneca

Whilst there are many bad things you can say about Argos they do tend to be very good with dealing with returns.
How are these all breaking? Do you live in a very hard water area? Could be bad luck but may be some element of user error if different makes/ models keep breaking on you0
